Psalm 2-3

“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?” (2:1).  The psalms reassure us that God is not surprised by the “rage” in the world.  Long ago, He determined that sin and death wouldn’t win; the Messiah would be “King in Zion,” and all the nations would become his inheritance (2:6-7).  After Pentecost, when Jesus’ followers were facing persecution, they quoted this psalm, reminding themselves that human leaders have limited authority, and God’s saving power will ultimately win (Acts 4:25).

“I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me” (3:5).  Even in uncertain times, we can live and sleep in peace, knowing Jesus is and will be King.
