Matthew 5

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (v43-44).  Jesus taught that God’s kingdom is radically different than our world.  Our world honors the powerful, the rich, and the proud, but Jesus said that His kingdom belongs to the meek, the merciful, and the pure in heart (v1-10).  Not murdering isn’t enough; God calls us to deal with the anger in our hearts (v22).

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works …” (v16).  When we live according to Jesus’ kingdom, God is glorified, and people are drawn to Him.
