Genesis 8-9

“I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth” (9:13).  The earth was so filled with violence that God caused a flood that nearly wiped out humanity.  He rescued righteous Noah and his family, charging them with continuing the work of humankind (9:1), though sin’s curse still reigned: “the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth” (8:21).  In the face of human rebellion, the rainbow symbolized God’s great mercy and desire to redeem us.

“I will remember my covenant” (9:15). God is full of compassion toward us.  His covenant of mercy was fully realized in Jesus, who saved us and redeemed us from sins’ curse.
