Genesis 10-11
/“Now the whole earth had one language and the same words” (11:1). God originally intended for humans, His image-bearers, to cultivate and fill His earth. However, after the flood, the amazing potential of human minds was not being used for godly purposes, but instead, people were trying “to make a name” for themselves (v4). Instead of honoring God by using their intelligence and power to build thriving communities, they were arrogantly trying to be gods themselves. God’s answer was to “confuse” their language and “disperse” them (11:7-8).
“Let us make a name for ourselves …” (v4). Pursuing our own glory and “name” leads to emptiness. God calls us to use our resources and talents in ways that honor Him.
