II Samuel 14-16
/“The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom” (15:13). David’s refusal to punish Amnon for the rape of Tamar set in motion a terrible chain of revenge, culminating with Absalom’s seizing the throne. Absalom used his personal charm and his position as a royal son to persuade people that he would make a better king than his father. David and his entourage had to flee Jerusalem again, just like in the days of King Saul, and David again had to cast himself on God’s mercy.
“Let Him do to me what seems good to Him” (15:26). No matter what we’ve done or how tangled our circumstance, God always responds to a humble heart. He won’t turn us away.
