Psalm 59-60

“O God, you have rejected us, broken our defenses; you have been angry; oh, restore us” (60:1).  Speaking for Israel, the psalmist expressed grief that the Lord seemed absent: “You do not go forth, O God, with our armies” (60:10).  Yet he still cried out: “That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer us!” (60:5).  Whether experiencing persecution from enemies (Ps 59) or the consequences of Israel’s own rebellion, David called on God, because “vain is the salvation of man” (60:11).

“O my Strength, I will watch for you” (59:9).  Whether our troubles are self-created or enemy attacks, the answer is the same. God is our help and our strength.
