“And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son” (v13). Elijah’s request was not a selfish desire to take bread from a poor woman. He was an established prophet (v1) in a land ruled by wicked Ahab, and he was challenging this widow to trust God. She believed that “the jug of oil shall not be empty” (v14) and therefore was able to share with the prophet.

“And she and her household ate for many days” (v15). Faith gives us the courage to obey God even when it costs us something.
