I Kings 10-11

“And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel” (11:9).  King Solomon presided over Israel’s most glorious years and caused its spectacular fall.  His God-given wisdom attracted visitors like the Queen of Sheba, and his management caused Israel to prosper.  But rather than relying on God, Solomon tried to enhance his power like other kings did – by marrying idol-worshipping foreign women, and then in turn worshipping these idols himself (11:1-8).

“Since this has been your practice …” (11:11).  Solomon’s lack of trust in God caused him to turn to the idols of sex, power, and wealth. When we believe Jesus is enough for us, other temptations lose their grip.
