I Chronicles 4-6

“The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shield and sword … expert in war” (5:18).  The author of Chronicles mentions these three tribes as being especially “valiant men,” but their biggest victories came by faith: “they cried out to God in the battle, and He granted their urgent plea because they trusted in Him” (5:20).  Eventually, “they broke faith with the God of their fathers, and whored after the gods of the peoples of the land” (5:25).  Their spiritual rebellion sent them into exile.

“Because they trusted in Him” (v20). The idols of power, wealth, and self-reliance couldn’t save Israel. Only by trusting in God could they experience victory and live in peace.
