I Chronicles 1-3
/“These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher” (2:1-2). The author of Chronicles retells Israel’s history and begins with their descent from Adam (1:1). By mentioning people like Seth, Enoch, Noah, and Abraham, he reminds God’s people that His great mission to redeem them and the world was in place from the beginning. Israel’s division, good and bad kings, and domination by foreign powers could not stop God’s plan.
“All these were David’s sons …” (3.9). David’s line went all the way to the Messiah, born in Bethlehem, fulfillment of the promises made to Abraham. In Him, we trust that our lives find their place in God’s great plan.
