I Chronicles 10

“And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons” (v2).  Chronicles summarizes King Saul’s failure by saying he “broke faith the Lord … he did not seek guidance from the Lord” (v13-14).  Saul’s concern about the outcome of a battle drove him to seek “guidance” from a medium, and his lack of trust in God had disastrous consequences for his sons and for everyone else. “The men of Israel fled before the Philistines” (v1).

Insecurity about the present or fear of the future can cause us to seek comfort and help in the wrong places. But the Lord calls us to listen to His voice; He alone leads us to “green pastures and still waters” (Psalm 23).
