II Kings 17-20

“He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel” (18:5).  Hezekiah became king of Judah in a terrible time.  The northern kingdom of Israel, after years of spiritual rebellion, was conquered by the Assyrian empire (ch 17).  That same empire sent their army commander to pressure the Judeans into surrendering, harassing them in Hebrew and threatening King Hezekiah. Terrified, Hezekiah “tore his robes” and threw himself on God. “So now, O LORD our God, save us, please, from his hand” (19:19).

“You are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth” (19:15). Times of danger and fear can make us panic and look for a savior.  Hezekiah went to the Source – our Creator, the God who saves.
