Matthew 20
/“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them … It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant … (v25-26). Even Jesus’ disciples had a difficult time understanding the radical nature of His kingdom (v20). He taught that “greatness” in God’s eyes was revealed in humble sacrifice. Any other use of power was counterfeit. Jesus the King “came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (v28).
Following Jesus means rejecting the world’s style of power and leadership. We were saved by His sacrifice, and so He calls us to embrace His kingdom of self-giving love.
