Genesis 30-32
/“If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been on my side …” (31:42). While working for his father-in-law Laban, Jacob’s wealth and children increased, despite all kinds of trouble. His wives were in competition with one another (and Rachel still worshipped pagan idols), Laban tried to cheat him, and Jacob himself manipulated many situations. Despite all this, Jacob remained loyal to “the God of Abraham,” knowing that the Lord was the only reason he survived and prospered. (32:12).
“I will not let you go unless you bless me” (32:26). Jacob’s mistakes didn’t ultimately define him. He stubbornly clung to the Lord and received his blessing.
