Mark 1

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel” (v15).  Jesus came preaching and embodying the “kingdom of God”.  The prophecies and hopes of the Old Testament were fulfilled, and God had come to dwell among His people, with a plan to deal with their sins.  John recognized that Jesus was the One they had all been waiting for, and people saw Jesus’ compassionate miracles and heard His preaching, many believed in Him (v27).

“Repent and believe the gospel” (v15).  The good news is that Jesus, God in the flesh, still invites us to follow Him (v17).  He is the fulfillment of our deepest hopes, if we will trust Him.
