Exodus 12-14

“The people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly” (14:10).  The Israelites had no tabernacle, temple, or habit of worship yet.  They had seen the plagues and knew that Moses was leading them out of slavery, but they didn’t really have a vision for a different life under God’s rule.  Some were convinced (14:12) that their old lives were more secure than this unknown.  But God was merciful to them, despite their fears.

“Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord” (14:13).  Our uncertainty or fear doesn’t disqualify us.  God often calls us only to “stand firm” and wait, as the Lord fights for us (v14).
