Leviticus 11-12

“For I am the LORD who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy” (Lev 11:45).  The Mosaic laws affected more than just worship.  There were food rules, and there were rules that managed the life-and death event of childbirth, the experience that most demonstrated human frailty (ch 12). All these laws taught the Israelites about holiness: God’s holiness, and their special relationship to Him.

Jesus took on sinful flesh, being like us “in every way”.  After His birth, Mary offered the poverty sacrifice of two pigeons (Luke 2:24).  His willingness to share our frail humanity made it possible for us to share His holiness.
