Psalm 20-21
/“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright” (v7-8). This psalm is a joyful declaration of faith, and prayer of blessing, rooted in the psalmist’s total confidence in God. “May he send you help from his sanctuary … may he grant you your heart’s desire” (v2-4). Because God created our amazing universe and demonstrates His saving love for us in countless ways, we “trust in His name.”
The psalmist reminds us that “chariots and horses” – the weapons and resources of the world - ultimately fail, but our Lord is always faithful and will make us stand.
