Proverbs 4
/“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (v23). The proverbs urge us to pay attention to our hearts, because our loves, loyalties, and attitudes drive our behavior. Wisdom grows in those who are humble (v1-8). When we recognize our neediness, we willingly listen to those God has placed in our lives (counselors, authorities, parents, teachers, pastors, experts, friends) for our good. Ultimately, God’s Word is our best source for the “paths of uprightness” (v11).
“But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day” (v18). If our hearts are set on God, we’ll find the light we need for the path ahead.
