Luke 7

“Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof” (v6).  The centurion was someone whom others considered righteous (v4); though a Gentile, he respected and supported the local synagogue.  Despite his good reputation, however, when he approached Jesus, he had no pride.  His sense of unworthiness compared to the Messiah matched that of the “sinful woman’ (v37) who anointed Jesus’ feet.  Society looked at these two differently, but both were commended by the Lord.

“Your sins are forgiven” (v48).  No matter our past or reputation, we are all equal when we come to Jesus.  He sees the heart, not the outward appearance.
