Luke 6
/“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great …” (v35). Jesus challenged the crowds to live as if God really was present – watching, caring, and judging. The world disdains the poor and the persecuted (v20-22), but Jesus declared that God sees them. The rich look like winners, but the Lord is the One who evaluates the worth of our lives (v24-26). We dare to radical things, like love our enemies (v27), only when we are confident that God is truly in charge.
“Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful” (v36). As citizens of heaven, we live according to God’s standard, not the world’s. His “well-done’ is enough.
