Mark 15

“And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom” (v38). The curtain in Jerusalem’s temple protected the holy place, where the high priest entered once a year to atone for the people’s sins.  Hebrews explains how Jesus’ death opened the way into God’s presence, because by faith in Him our sins are forgiven forever. The scene of Jesus’ death hinted at this.  Those excluded from the temple’s inner courts, like the Roman centurion and the women, didn’t want to leave Jesus (v39-41).

“Truly this man was the Son of God!” (v39). Jesus’ death displayed God’s heart: He loved us enough to take the burden of sin onto Himself, so that we can enter His presence.
