Psalm 36

“Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes” (v1). The psalmist warns us that, as sinful humans, we have a tendency to “flatter ourselves” and justify our actions.  When we turn away from God’s voice, we hear our own voices, justifying our actions and planning wrongdoing (v2-4).  Yet God’s faithful love endures, and we can choose to take refuge under His wings, rather than be our own gods.  God is the “fountain of life” for those who will humble themselves and seek Him.

“In your light do we see light” (v9). Through Jesus, the image of God and Light of the world, we see our own lives more clearly.
