Deuteronomy 8

“And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you … that he might humble you” (v2).  The Israelites’ journey through the wilderness was a “test” (v2) to reveal what was in their hearts.  Rather than relying on themselves, they were learning what trust and obedience to the Creator looked like. Their need and God’s provision demonstrated that “man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD” (v3).

“And He humbled you …” (v3).  When we recognize our real dependence on the Lord, we also discover His abundant provision.  He invites us to enjoy “the good land” - life under His rule (v10).
