Deuteronomy 9-10

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD …” (10:12-13). Moses said that the covenant between God and Israel required a change of the heart (v16).  God cares about justice for those who are overlooked and vulnerable, such as the fatherless and widows, and He “loves the sojourner” (foreigners, v18). Being His people means caring about the same things.

“Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners” (10:19).  We are all strangers and foreigners when it comes to God’s kingdom.  He welcomes us in and calls us to extend the same mercy and compassion to others.
