Luke 16

“You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God” (v15).  The Pharisees knew and kept the Law, yet they were “lovers of money,” and they ridiculed Jesus’ teaching that it was impossible to serve both God and money (v14).  Jesus replied with a parable about a rich man who ignored the poor during his earthly life and ended up in hell (v19-31), while the poor man was comforted at Abraham’s side.

Our society exalts wealth and possessions, but we live “in the sight of God” (v15).  With all we own and all we are, we serve one master, the Lord Jesus (v13).
