Deuteronomy 17-19

“When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations” (18:9).  God led the Israelites out of Egypt so that they could live as His unique people, demonstrating what God’s ways look like.  This included proper worship and laws: requiring 2-3 witnesses to accuse someone of a crime (17:6), respecting the decisions of leadership (17:10), and not permitting revenge killings (ch 19).  The Israelites were called to be beacons of righteousness.

“You shall be blameless before the Lord your God” (18:13).  Just as He rescued Israel, God rescues us from sin and guilt, and then He calls us to act as His own people.
