Psalm 34
/“What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good?” (v12). This psalm is attributed to David, when he pretended to be insane to escape King Abimelech (v1). David recognized that his escape was due to divine help: God rescued him “from all his fears” and “out of all his troubles” (v4-6). This deliverance required his participation by faith, just like the fight against Goliath. Those who “desire life” and good things, he says, should join God’s work, “turn away from evil and do good” (v14).
“Seek peace and pursue it” (v14). Faith isn’t a feeling. It means we throw ourselves onto the Lord and actively embrace His ways, trusting He will deliver us.
