John 6

“If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh” (v51).  Jesus’ audience knew that their ancestors had survived on manna in the desert (v49); yet they mistrusted and disobeyed, and that generation didn’t enter the Promised Land.  Jesus was offering a deeper and more permanent rescue: by giving his own life and inviting us to “eat” – to share in His death and resurrection by faith (v53-57).  This manna, Jesus Himself, gives us abundant and never-ending life.

“I am the bread of life” (v48).  We need more than miraculous rescue from temporary troubles.  We need Jesus Himself, who satisfies our souls and abides with us.
