Luke 21

“This will be your opportunity to bear witness” (v13).  Jesus told his followers that they would face stormy, terrible times – but they should not fear.  The chaos of the world, even persecution, could not separate them from God’s love and His eternal purposes; “by your endurance you will gain your lives” (v19). They were called to faithfully “bear witness,” remaining true to Jesus and His kingdom. The real danger was not outside, but inside them: “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down … with the cares of this life” (v34).

“Stay awake at all times” (v36). In troubled times, we are called to be spiritually “awake,” witnessing with words and behavior to the redeeming love of Christ.
