Psalm 40
/“He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure” (v2). The psalmist had waited for the Lord during a difficult time (v1), and God had rescued him. More than that, the Lord had shown him that the rituals of Temple sacrifices were symbols, not the goal (v6). Instead, “I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart” (v8). God wants us to trust Him, rather than chasing other sources of security (v4).
“He put a new song in my mouth” (v3). God’s faithfulness to us leads to praise, so that we can confidently tell others of His goodness.
