Judges 6-7
/Gideon and the people of Israel are suffering because of marauding gangs of Midianites and Amalekites who are stealing each type of crop when they are ready for harvest (6:3). Gideon lives in fear and doubt, he questions God’s goodness and himself (vs 13-15). Even when God promises to empower him, Gideon doesn’t simply take God’s word (6:36). God relents in giving him a sign. In spite of all of this, God uses Gideon to route his enemies with a mere 300 fighters.
Our faith is so often weak and afraid. Perhaps we are even suffering the consequences of sin. But God is ready to hear us even then, when we “cry out to the Lord” (6:7).
