Psalm 49
/“For he sees that even the wise die; the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others” (v10). The psalmist reminds us that wealth only gives the illusion of security and success; rich people die just like everyone else (v12). Getting our name on a building (v11) or enjoying the admiration of others for our success (v18) are temporary satisfactions; in the end, death comes to all, and we can’t take anything with us into eternity (v17).
We don’t idolize wealth, because we serve Jesus and His kingdom. We don’t fear death, because God has promised to receive us based on His own generous mercy (15).
