John 12:1-8
/“Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table” (v1-2). The setting for Mary’s beautiful act of worship was a dinner party attended by people whose lives had been transformed by Jesus. Lazarus was there, and Martha, and Judas Iscariot. Mary demonstrated overflowing gratitude and faith, while Judas, focused on his own gain, couldn’t bring himself to worship.
“The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume” (v3). When we carry within ourselves the knowledge of what Jesus has done for us, our gratitude overflows into worship.
