John 13

“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God … began to wash the disciples’ feet” (v4-5). Jesus’ revolutionary action (Rabbis and recognized leaders did not act like servants) was prompted by his knowledge of his deep relationship with the Father. Jesus was completely secure about who He was and His mission on earth, so He could risk humiliation and do something extraordinary.

“You also ought to wash one another’s feet” (v14). Jesus invites us to share His relationship with the Father, so that, completely secure in His love, we can also risk giving up our status to serve others.
