Proverbs 9

“Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight” (v6). Proverbs tells us that, as humans, we have the power of choice.  Both godly wisdom and sinful foolishness call out to us (v1,13), all along the journey of our lives.  The author acknowledges that wrong choices may seem seductive, sweet, and pleasant (13-18), but underneath the tempting exterior, “the dead are there” (v18). God’s ways, on the other hand, build a stable and satisfying life (v11).

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (v10). We can’t pursue wisdom on our own. Instead, we follow the Lord, who walks beside us and shapes our hearts.
