Judges 13-16
/“For behold, you shall conceive and bear a son …. and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines” (v13:5). Samson’s story begins with a promise from God to a barren woman that He would give her a special son. Instead of following God, Samson turned out to love violence, deception, and promiscuity, yet God’s promise to accomplish deliverance through him prevailed. Samson reflected the depravity of his times, yet God did not abandon His people.
“O Lord God, please remember me …” (16:28). When we were God’s enemies, rebellious like the Israelites, God loved us and sent Jesus to rescue us from our sins. His mercy never fails.
