John 7

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” (v37-38).  The Jews of Jesus’ day argued about whether or not Jesus could be the Messiah; at first, “not even His brothers believed in Him” (v5).  The religious leaders sent their officers to arrest Him (v32), fearing that He was undermining their authority.  Knowing the controversies, Jesus kept doing the Father’s will: offering living water to those who were thirsty.

“If anyone thirsts” (v37). Pride, self-justification, and the troubles of the world often distract us from our deep spiritual thirst. Jesus is the only one who offers living water.
