John 8
/“Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her” (v7). Confronting the crowd who wanted to stone a woman caught in adultery (where was the man?), Jesus exposed their sinful hearts. He didn’t excuse the adultery, yet His words brought conviction to the accusers. Because Jesus rejected the false idea that being “Abraham’s children” made people holy, He was attacked (v31-47). He pointed out that the religious leaders were in bondage, and they rejected Him (v34).
“The truth will set you free” (v32). Full of self-righteousness, the religious leaders couldn’t see they were trapped in sin. But when we humbly accept the truth, Jesus sets us free and heals us.
