Joshua 23-24

“Be very careful, therefore, to love the LORD your God” (23:11).  Joshua, nearing the end of his life, urged the Israelites to “cling to the Lord” in the Promised Land (23:8).  God had rescued them, fought for them, and settled them in a prosperous country – they were eating olives from trees they hadn’t planted (24:13) – and Joshua urged them not to take God’s care for granted. Rejecting God and embracing the idols of their neighbors would lead to ruin (24:20).

“Choose this day whom you will serve” (24:15). Jesus wants our total allegiance, because any other path leads to our destruction.  He calls us to give up our idols and cling to Him.
