John 18

“Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the governor's headquarters …” (18:28).  The religious and secular authorities were united in their opposition to Jesus.  The high priest’s men – the same group who had dared to strike Jesus (v22) – were careful of their religious purity.  They handed over Jesus to Roman officials but refused to enter the Gentile governor’s headquarters so they could remain religiously “clean” for Passover (v28). Their love of human power made them blind to the Savior in front of them.

“My kingdom is not of this world” (v36). Jesus’ authority does not reside in human institutions or structures.  He is King of the universe, seen and unseen, and He wants to claim every heart’s allegiance.
