Acts 6
/“Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty” (v3). The early church was mostly Jewish by ethnicity, but this included some Greek-speakers (Hellenists) and some Hebrew-speakers. When the Hellenists felt their widows were being neglected by the church, the apostles quickly created new positions for Greek-speakers to be administrators of resources. These men had to be “full of the Spirit and wisdom” just as the apostles were.
“They prayed and laid their hands on them” (v6). The early believers saw that everything was spiritual, not just preaching. Cultural conflict, leadership, sharing resources – God wants to teach us His ways in every area.
