II Chronicles 13-15
/“Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude” (14:11). King Asa, descendent of David, taught the people of Judah to rely on the Lord even as they faced an enormous Ethiopian army. He knew that the idols of the nations could not help them. Asa removed the foreign altars from Judah (14:3-4) and initiated a renewal of their covenant with God: they “sought Him with their whole desire, and He was found by them” (15:15).
“And the LORD gave them rest all around” (15:15). Under Asa’s leadership, God’s people learned that when they made God their “whole desire,” they also found protection, peace, and rest.
