III John

“Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God” (5-6). The earliest evangelists and missionaries depended on the hospitality of God’s people, who supported them and thus became “fellow workers for the truth” (v8). In contrast, there were also leaders like Diotrephes, who rejected participation in mission and opposed God’s work (9-10).

God calls us to put aside our power struggles, to open our hearts and homes, and to partner with others in doing all we can “for the sake of the Name” (v7).
