II John
/“For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist” (7). John urged the young churches to resist false teachers who denied Jesus had come “in the flesh.” These “deceivers” apparently preached the spectacular power of Christ without acknowledging the suffering He endured on the cross, as a human. They wanted the victory without the pain of walking in the way of love, which is Christ’s command (5-6).
“Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us ... in truth and love” (3). Because Jesus suffered for us, as God’s children we can also walk in truth and love
