Daniel 3-5
/“Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up?” (3:14). The three faithful Jews refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar’s “golden image,” despite the threat of being thrown into a fiery furnace. They refused to bow to the king’s power, choosing instead to serve the God of heaven. They believed God was able to deliver them (3:7), but even if He did not, they remained faithful.
“We will not serve your gods” (3:18). Anything we think is the answer to our problems can become an idol. God calls us to refuse to bow to wealth, security, sexuality, or politics and to serve Him alone.
