Amos 4-6

“Therefore because you trample on the poor and you exact taxes of grain from him, you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them ...” (5:11). Through the prophet Amos, God rebuked the wealthier Israelites for “trampling” on the dignity of the poor and treating them harshly while still going through the motions of religion (4:4). Amos urged the Israelites to change their ways, to “seek the Lord and live” (5:6) before it was too late.

“Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the gate” (5:15). As God’s people, we are called to bear His image. Our worship is empty unless we extend His mercy and generosity to those around us.
