Obadiah

“The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, in your lofty dwelling, who say in your heart, “Who will bring me down to the ground?” (v3). Edom, ethnically related to the Israelites, had allowed pride to lead them astray. They stood by and gloated when Jerusalem was conquered by the Babylonians; they had no pity for those taken into exile (v10-14). Despite their ‘security’ (v4), the Lord promised they would face judgment.

“For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations” (v15). Our world sees wealth, stability, and power as signs of success, but the Lord looks for justice and mercy, and His judgments have the final word.
