Zechariah 8-9

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey” (9:9). After the humiliation of punishment and years of exile, the prophet welcomed “from a distance” the King who would come to heal Israel. This humble King would forgive their sins, set prisoners free, and “speak peace to the nations” (9:10).

Israel’s Messiah would be revealed as the Savior of the whole world, the answer to the hunger in every soul. “His rule shall be from sea to sea ... to the ends of the earth” (9:10).
