Zephaniah 1-3

“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save” (3:17). The prophet Zephaniah pronounced judgment on the proud and rebellious, whether they were in Judah (1:4) or Gaza, Moab, or Assyria (ch 2). God promised to “sweep away man and beast” (1:3) on His great day of judgment, yet He says, “Fear not” to the humble. Anyone who calls on His name, those left in Israel and those “beyond the rivers of Cush” (Ethiopia, 3:10), can receive forgiveness.

“The Lord has taken away the judgments against you ... He will quiet you with his love” (3:15-17). For both Jew and Gentile, God offers mercy through Christ and invites us to be part of Zion.
